1. Cooling Method
Oil-cooled distribution transformers use mineral oil or synthetic insulating fluids to absorb and dissipate heat generated during operation. The most common cooling method is ONAN (Oil Natural Air Natural), which relies on natural convection.
2. Efficient Heat Dissipation
The oil circulates inside the tank and transfers heat from the core and windings to the outer tank surface, which then dissipates heat into the surrounding air. This ensures stable performance under continuous load.
3. Insulation and Protection
The insulating oil also acts as a dielectric medium, providing electrical insulation between live parts and the tank, reducing the risk of short circuits and improving safety.
4. Sealed or Conservator-Type Design
Oil-cooled transformers can be sealed (hermetically sealed units) or conservator-type. Conservator-type units include an oil expansion tank that accommodates oil volume changes due to temperature fluctuations.
5. Durability and Long Life
These transformers are highly durable and suitable for outdoor installation. Proper oil maintenance can significantly extend their service life.
6. Load Handling Capacity
Oil-cooled transformers can handle higher loads compared to dry-type units, making them suitable for industrial and large-scale distribution systems.

1. On-Load Voltage Regulation

1. Medium to High Power Rating
